Description

Rigoberto Soler was formed in the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia. In 1924 he settled in the Ibizan town of Santa Eulàlia des Riu, where he remained for more than thirty years, until 1956. He combined his pictorial practice with teaching; he was professor of classical drawing at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, in Barcelona, and since 1962 he has been a corresponding member of the Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia. He received numerous awards throughout his career, and held exhibitions in different cities both in Spain and in other European and American countries. He died in Valencia in 1968, and the city dedicated a street to him six years later, in 1974. Rigoberto Soler's work represents a crucial contribution to Valencian art of the 20th century, within the realist figuration. His themes range from portraits to landscapes, being frequent his Ibizan characters, seascapes and his personal Valencian orchards. His works include "Niños desnudos al sol" (Naked children in the sun), "Idilio ibicenco" (Ibizan idyll) and "La publila". He is currently represented at the Museo de Bellas Artes Gravina, in Alicante.
