Sculptor and painter born in Extremadura but raised in Bilbao, Martín Simón was initiated in art by the painter Balenciaga, and received his first teachings at the Escuela Sindical, with the master Solís. In 1957 he made a trip to Rome, where he visited the workshops of Pagliaccio, Berni and Tamburini. At this time he began to hold exhibitions in bars and small galleries in Verona, Padua, Florence and Milan, and in 1961 he met De Chirico. After doing his military service he settled in Paris, and from there he travelled and exhibited all over Europe. He returned to Bilbao in 1970, and since then he has exhibited mainly in Spain and Latin America. Currently based in Madrid, where he has his own foundry, he is represented in important Spanish and foreign collections.
